Patient Care

High-tech notwithstanding, the CSC offers a very warm, hospitable and caring atmosphere for patients. It is able to achieve this and, at the same time, provide a work environment for its staff that is unequaled in the health care industry.

The Cambie Surgery Centre prides itself in its reputation of providing the best in patient care and safety. Patients will experience a pleasant and stress free environment and a friendly, courteous and professional attitude among the staff. We believe that health care should be delivered with exceptional customer service and satisfaction, while providing optimal patient safety. Patients who come to the Cambie Surgery Centre will not have the frustration sometimes experienced when dealing with the bureaucracy in major hospitals. Everything is planned to minimize the natural anxiety that patients experience prior to a surgical procedure and to preserve the patient's right to confidentiality and privacy. Doctors and patients will find that the CSC staff make every effort to accommodate their needs and requests.

In recognition of its commitment to excellent care and substantial compliance with the standards for ambulatory health care organizations, the surgical center was granted a three year accreditation by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

The recovery area has a seven bed first stage recovery room and a second stage recovery area with patients cared for in recliner chairs. The centre also has seven extended short stay private rooms equipped with telephone, radio, television, wireless internet access and video players. Each is designed to provide patient comfort and privacy.

The centre has the very latest in modern monitoring and resuscitation equipment. Post surgical recovery is monitored by highly trained nurses, and is supervised by consultant anaesthesiologists. Many of the surgeons at the CSC are national and international leaders in their specialty. Patients will have an opportunity to experience non-invasive surgical techniques so that they can have a faster recovery. Most of the operations performed at the Cambie Surgery Centre are minimally invasive thanks to the latest techniques and equipment. For example, during arthroscopic surgery, a tiny , buttonhole-sized incision is made and pencil-sized instruments that contain a small lens and lighting system are used to examine the joint. Patients will have smaller incisions, less pain, and usually return home the same day depending on the procedure.
